Webinar on Writing a Winning Research Proposal


IEEE GRIET SB Women In Engineering(WIE) AG, in collaboration with the Education Society of IEEE Hyderabad Section has organised a webinar on “Writing a winning Research Proposal” by Dr. M.G Sethuraman. The webinar was held using the online platform Cisco Webex Meetings. The goal of a research proposal is to present and justify a research idea that one has and to present the practical ways in which the research should be conducted. The webinar started off with Mr. M.G Sethuraman educating the attendees about the purpose of a research proposal and the value they hold in building innovation to bring modern solutions to present and future problems. He explained the significance of Research proposals and their effectiveness in transforming ideas into reality. Nextly, he introduced students to the statutory body: Science and Education Research Board (SERB). This Government of India establishment, aims to build up best management systems which would match the best global practices in the area of promotion and funding of basic research. He detailed to the students about the various schemes offered by SERB that support research funding and explained to students how to avail this opportunity. He also mentioned major fundamental thrust schemes that are majorly funded for research. These include, basic science, Applied and interdisciplinary sciences, humanities and social




Talk on IEEE Power and Energy Society


IEEE GRIET SB- PES chapter conducted PES membership awareness drive through the webinar on IEEE POWER AND ENERGY SOCIETY in Google meet for 1st Year Electrical and Electronics Engineering students. The speaker for the webinar Mr. John Benedict Buggala worked with Amazon as Manager for about six years before moving to consult at the start of 2021. This webinar was conducted as a membership drive to the first-year students, to bring awareness about one of the oldest technical professional societies, the Power and Energy Society. Mr. Benedict elucidated the importance and significance of IEEE PES membership for students. PES membership provides access to the popular Electrification magazine and numerous free certified technical webinars, offers unlimited discounts to students, builds networking with technology professionals, aids career even after graduation, assists the students in research and management, and many more. Mr. John even elucidated regarding opportunities the society provides to the students to build their profession through the PES career. PES, unlike any other community, provides a platform to grow networking amidst students across the globe. PES even offers dozens of free technical tutorials and a digital library to build students' technical skills. He even added about Member-driven initiatives, funding opportunities and scholarships offered to the students across various regions.




Membership Drive


Initially, the information regarding the Membership Drive was forwarded to all the official whatsapp groups and also to our Instagram page. Later, the gotomeeting link was shared prior to the meeting. IEEE GRIET SB team gave the attendees a demo on how to enrol for IEEE membership and also gave insights on Membership benefits, societies in IEEE, Volunteering opportunities, events etc. THE IEEE-GRIET student branch mainly aims : ● To make the students aware about the latest technical advancements. ● To inculcate a sense of teamwork and responsibility by encouraging them to organize events. ● To make them acquainted with various useful technologies by conducting workshops. ● To provide industrial experience by conducting various industrial tours. ● To stress the importance of communication skills and thereby encouraging the members in it by conducting literary clubs. After the detailing, 52 students turned up and filled the google forms.




Webinar on Research and studying Abroad


IEEE GRIET SB- PES chapter conducted a webinar on Research and studying Abroad in the Google meeting platform with around 48 attendees. The main objective of the webinar is to assist students by channelling guidance that paves the way to their dreams to study abroad. The session was quite interactive. The speaker shared the personal preferences he made for his education. And motivated students about making the right choices at the right time. He shared the scenario of today’s education system in India. He listed various countries one can choose for their education while addressing the opportunities. Mr Krishna motivated students to work hard to accomplish their dream. He explained the significance of Research papers for studying abroad and showed quite a few examples to write one.




Clean Energy IDEATHON


Ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes, believing in this, IEEE GRIET SB PES CHAPTER in association with IEEE SB-IIT Bhubaneswar came up with a Nationwide Competition CLEAN ENERGY IDEATHON 2021. It was conducted on themes: (1) Clean Energy, (2) Pandemic and Post Pandemic Solutions and (3) Rural Development. The preliminary round involved the participating teams submitting the brief abstract of their idea on one of the given themes. We received over 250 registrations from 35 different colleges around the nation. 20 teams were shortlisted based on their motive out of the 99 teams that participated. The results of this first round were declared on May 25, 2021. On 29th of May 2021, the second round was organized virtually. The event started with the inaugural ceremony in the presence of Chief Guests Dr. Debi Prosad and Mrs. Sridevi. We had 7 prominent judges to evaluate the ideas based on 4 criterias: Problem Statement, Proposed Idea, Implementation Plan and Evidence of functionality. The shortlisted teams were divided into 2 batches of 10 teams each. Each team was allotted 7 minutes for presenting their idea which was followed by 3 minutes of Q&A from the judges. The event lasted from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. On the following day, the results were declared after evaluating the presentations given by each team. A shoutout was given to the winners on our social media page and all the teams who submitted their presentations received e-certificates for participation.




Webinar on Financial Planning for Young Professionals


IEEE GRIET SB WIE AG in collaboration with HERMONEYTALKS and BSE INDIA conducted a webinar on ‘Financial Planning for Young Professionals’. The session was a financial awareness program for undergraduate students. She described the current mindset and awareness of youth regarding the matters of finance and emphasized the need to be financially aware from an early age. She also shared the best means to invest and mentioned their different return rates. The benefits and process of investing in EQUITY shares was also dealt. Nextly, Ms. Nidhi briefed the concept of capital market and highlighted the benefits of engaging in capital markets and the security terms of investments Security Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and their roles were discussed in detail. The session was concluded with a Q and A session wherein students actively asked doubts on investing loans , stock markets ,cryptocurrency e.t.c. The webinar was informative and interactive at all times and kept the audience engaged throughout.




An Insight to Cryptocurrency: Blockchain and Bitcoin for Beginners


IEEE GRIET SB under the Computer Society chapter organized a webinar on “An Insight to Cryptocurrency: Blockchain and Bitcoin for Beginners” by Mr. Ashutosh Kashyap. The objective of the session was to help students obtain an insight into the world of cryptocurrency. The session was held on 17th June 2021 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM using the platform “GoToMeeting”. The speaker of the session, Mr. Ashutosh Kashyap is an entrepreneur, a risk analyst and a financial modeler. He is the founder of Ashutosh Kashyap Enterprises LLP and the Crypto Knight community at the age of 23. He has also delivered a TEDx speech on “Your network is your net worth” in NMIMS Shirpur Campus Maharashtra. He is on a mission to improve the efficiency of student entrepreneurs by enabling self-sufficiency through reducing the dependability on external investments. Mr. Ashutosh Kashyap began the session by asking an interesting question: “What came first? Blockchain or Bitcoin?”. The answer to this is Bitcoin. Blockchain was later developed on the applications of Bitcoin. Blockchain technology is now considered to be the second layer over the Internet. He stated that if Blockchain is a sea, then Cryptocurrency is a river in that sea. He exclaimed that the information around Blockchain is still very confusing and new to the world. Throughout his presentation, he answered the most common questions around Blockchain.




Quiztronics II


IEEE GRIET GRSS Student Chapter hosted an online quiz named “Quiztronics II” on 14th June 2021 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM to provide students with an opportunity to test the grip a student possesses and to improvise their general knowledge in the field of electronics. The registrations of “Quiztronics II” were opened from 11th June 2021 and around 55 participants enrolled themselves. It consisted of two rounds that covered the topics such as oscillators, transistors, diodes, semiconductors, etc. The preliminary round consisted of 10 Multiple choice questions, and the second round consisted of a crossword puzzle. There was a time limit of 20 minutes per round to attempt the quiz. All the questions asked were designed to brush up on the participants’ prerequisite learnings of electronics. Students from various departments attempted the quiz to understand their command over the given subject. The contestants enthusiastically participated and showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions asked. The winners were given merit certificates for their outstanding insight. The quiz enabled the students to identify what they know and what they don’t. We hope that the participants now have a better idea of how well they can grasp the topics that are being taught, hopefully motivating them to study more.
